But what is airtime? That is a question we get from many people. It is easy to understand. Think of it as the minutes a person has available to talk on a mobile phone. In countries like India, Nigeria and Cuba, airtime is as valuable as money. Perhaps even more so! It keeps families in touch with their loved ones in other countries, and helps them lead their daily lives.
And what are data bundles? These are the gigabytes used to browse the internet on a mobile phone. They are as important as airtime. We at Reloadly offer cool tools for businesses that which to engage with them.
Come see us at the biggest mobile technology show
This isn’t an exaggeration. MWC Barcelona is one of the industry’s leading events. Every year, between late February and early March, representatives of the world’s leading mobile technologies come together. This is the place to show off products and services, unveil new devices, and give conferences and workshops.
It is a massive affair for both the industry and the city. The show floors in Barcelona’s Fira Gran Via reunite up to 2,400 exhibitors. The event will be happen between February 27th and March 2nd. It will receive more than 80K visitors and representatives from 200+ countries.
A bit of history about MWC
Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress is not an island. The global event is a flagship of the GSMA organization, an institution of which Reloadly is also a member. MWC has extensions in Las Vegas and Shanghai too, but Barcelona’s edition is the one the most important one. This wasn’t always the case, however. The original event took place in Brussels back in 1987. It was called the “Pan Europe Digital Cellular Radio” and held in Rome three years latter. It was there where it saw its first name change to “GSM World Congress”.
This became an event hosted by various European cities. It went through Berlin, Lisbon, Nice, Madrid, Athens, and Cannes, where it settled in 1996. It would remain there for the next ten years until it moved away to Barcelona. Although the original plans scheduled the event to be hosted until 2024, recent agreements have extended permission until 2030.
What can be expected this year?
Every year, Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress grows in importance. This year’s edition will bring together representatives from the biggest tech companies and international governance. They will talk about the importance of connectivity and the security of data. Two things in which Reloadly has established itself as one of the industry’s leaders.
Some of the speakers who will be at WMC Barcelona include important figures. People like Ishwar Parulkar from Amazon; Börje Ekholm, the Ericsson Group; Mark Curtis, Accenture; and Nukhet Kayahan from Microsoft. This isn’t even the tip of the iceberg. All of the big names and intrepid newcomers will be there. From legacy companies and mobile service providers to startups of all kinds.
